Allow The Spirit to Flow Freely

My husband uncoiled the water hose and turned on the spigot. But instead of a strong stream from the high-pressure nozzle, only a trickle came out. At first, he thought the nozzle was broken. But on closer inspection, the real problem was deeper — the inside of the rubber hose had burst. The water supply was there, but instead of flowing freely, it was leaking out and trapped inside the hose.

That picture is a lot like our spiritual lives. As Christians, we have the living water of the Holy Spirit within us. Jesus said in John 7:38: “Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

But sometimes that flow gets blocked. Sin, bitterness, distractions, or neglect of our relationship with God can “burst the hose,” keeping His Spirit from flowing freely through us. The water is still there, but it’s not reaching where it needs to go.

When we allow God to deal with the source of the problem, His Spirit flows strong and clear again. And when His Spirit flows, fruit is produced — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23).

The supply has never been the issue. It’s the channel. Let’s keep our hearts open and surrendered so His Spirit can flow freely through us, blessing others and bringing glory to God.
