Baby Grand is always ready to tackle a job. Since he was two years old, his job has been to take the cream pods from the big glass jar in the pantry and place them on the kitchen counter near the coffee maker. I always talked him through the process—from getting the creamers out of the pantry to setting them on the counter. At the age of four, he threw his hands in the air and exclaimed, “Why do you keep telling me how to do the creams? It’s my job!”

From that moment on, I backed off and allowed him to take charge. The results were mind-expanding.

First, he began placing the cream pods on top of the cups, carefully lining up the pod spouts with the cup handles, all pointing outward. “So you and Papa can reach the handle and know which cream is yours,” he explained. Over time, he started adding a second cream pod to each stack. “Just ’cause I wanted to give you more,” he offered.

Do you see where this is going?

I do the very same thing with God. I turn something over to Him, but then I keep telling Him—again and again—how I want it handled. I’ve never once considered how frustrated God must get with me. Does He throw His hands up in exasperation? Maybe there’s a situation in my life He wants to adjust just a little, so I can get a better “handle” on it. Maybe He even wants to give me more—just because He loves me.

“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”

—Ephesians 3:20

Yes! I call it ”Indian giving” because I give it to Him, than take it back because I think I have a great idea how to fix it; after my idea doesn’t work then I give it to Him again and, unfortunately, the circle continues. But I do think He understands and has the patience needed for His children. Love u
