This Little Light Of Mine

One of my favorite times to practice with my bow is early in the morning when I’m fresh. I especially enjoy those crisp fall days when the air is cool, and a slow shower of leaves drifts down around me. Sometimes, though, the canopy of trees in my side yard makes it so overcast that I can’t see the pins in my TruGlo sight without switching on its battery-powered light.
When the battery is strong, each pin glows in a different color, sharp and clear, making it easy to hone in. My shooting rises to a whole new level of precision and enjoyment. But when the battery is weak, the light is still there—it just doesn’t shine brightly enough to be useful. It glows faintly, but it isn’t effective.
That’s a lesson for me. Jesus said in Matthew 5:16, “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Our spiritual “batteries” need to stay strong so that the light of Christ in us shines brightly, not faintly. When His light is glowing in our lives, it brings clarity, joy, and encouragement—not only to us but to those around us.
It reminds me of the children’s song we all know: “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine!” The words are simple, but the truth is powerful. A bright light makes dark times not so bad. It points the way, steadies the aim, and gives courage to keep going.
So let’s keep our batteries charged—through prayer, worship, Scripture, and fellowship. A weak light may flicker, but a strong light can pierce the darkest canopy. Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!
